"Surrounding the typically awful rhyme inside is a whole gaggle of signatures representing Korngold's colleagues at Warner Bros. Music Department in the mid-1940s. Department chief Leo Forbstein's signature is front and centre, but the many other signees include: orchestrators Hugo Friedhofer, Milan Roder, Simon Bucharoff, Ray Heindorf, and Manuel Emmanuel ; composers Heinz Roemheld, Adolph Deutsch, Eugene Del Cioppo, and Clifford Vaughan; arranger Bill Ellfeldt; copyists Jaro Churain, Joe Wiesenfreund, Leo Damiani, Art Grier, and Charles Eggett; other department staff such as Ed Plantamura and Nina Sampson; music editor Hal Findlay; music librarian Vito Centrone ; and pianist Victor Aller. Although the names of Franz Waxman and Max Steiner, two composers working at Warner Bros. at the time, are notable by their absence, it is still a remarkable collection of key personnel in the Music Department. At first glance, then, the card-which was evidently intended for Korngold on his 48th birthday-might be considered simply to be a reflection of the esteem in which the composer was held at the studio. As such, it reinforces the impression that he was on good terms with numerous colleagues throughout his career at Warner Bros.: his wife, Luzi, tells the story of Korngold in 1935 inviting the technical personnel who had worked until 5 in the morning on the dubbing of one of his first films, Captain Blood, out to breakfast at Sardi's in Hollywood. There seems little reason to doubt Korngold's egalitarian popularity with his colleagues, and the 1945 birthday card seems to confirm that this was a lasting state of affairs, not merely an initial effort to ingratiate himself"--
